The island was founded in 2017 by entrepreneur Kristina Roth after she sold her technology consulting business. The retreat began welcoming guests in 2018.

The island is accessible from Helsinki in roughly one and a half hours using car and boat transportation, or faster by helicopter. Travel times depend on weather and boat schedule availability.
