Parc Zoologique et Botanique de Mulhouse, Zoo and botanical garden in Mulhouse, France
Parc Zoologique et Botanique de Mulhouse is a 25-hectare park housing approximately 1,200 animals and around 3,500 plant species in separate exhibits and themed gardens. The site combines animal habitats with botanical collections across a single continuous property.
The park was founded in 1868 by industrial leaders of Mulhouse, starting with a collection of deer, birds, and kangaroos for public enjoyment. From this modest beginning, it grew into a major site for science and education.
The park has held the 'Jardin Remarquable' label since 2005, displaying plant collections carefully arranged in themed gardens that reflect a deep understanding of landscape design. Visitors can explore different botanical environments that showcase horticultural knowledge and plant diversity.
The park opens daily at 9:00 AM throughout the year, with closing times varying between 16:00 and 19:00 depending on the season. Visitors should plan their arrival time based on the season to have adequate time for exploring.
The park houses one of Europe's oldest Japanese bicolor spruce trees, planted in 1867 and still growing today. In addition, it displays over 250 peony varieties and more than 500 iris species found in dedicated sections.
