Château de la Grève

The stone fortress features medieval architectural elements including a spiral staircase, mullioned windows with window seats, and a remarkable timber framework.

The first lords of La Grève appeared in written records at the end of the 11th century, with the current castle constructed in the 15th century.

The castle represents significant medieval heritage in Vendée, with its preserved vaulted cellar, latrine tower, and numerous medieval fireplaces.

The property remains closed to visitors, with ongoing preservation and restoration work to prevent further deterioration of the endangered structure.

Selected in 2023 for heritage identification mission, this castle stands as one of the few remaining medieval fortresses in Vendée.
