Château de la Grève

Château de la Grève is a 15th-century castle featuring medieval architectural details such as spiral staircases, pointed arch windows with window seats, and intricately worked timber framing. The structure also includes a latrine tower and preserves functional rooms like a vaulted cellar and multiple period fireplaces.

The lords of La Grève first appeared in written records at the end of the 11th century, while the present castle was built during the 15th century. This construction reflected the site's evolution and the changing needs of feudal structures in the region.

The castle displays medieval features that reveal how people once lived within its walls, such as the vaulted cellar and original fireplaces still visible today. These spaces tell stories of daily life and craftsmanship from centuries past.

The castle is currently not open to visitors due to ongoing restoration work aimed at preserving the endangered structure from further decline. Future visits will depend on the progress of restoration projects and any planned opening guidelines.

The castle was selected in 2023 for a heritage preservation mission and stands as one of the few remaining medieval fortresses in the region. This recognition highlights its importance as an endangered cultural site receiving international attention for its rescue.
