Place du Capitole, Central square in Toulouse, France
The Place du Capitole extends over 12,000 square meters, featuring a grand neoclassical facade of pink and white stone stretching 128 meters in length.
The square dates back to the 12th century when the Capitouls, medieval municipal administrators, established their first governing headquarters at this location.
The Salle des Illustres inside the Capitole building contains paintings and decorations by 19th-century artists depicting important moments in Toulouse's development.
The square transforms into a market space where vendors sell regional products, clothing, and vintage items every morning except Sundays.
A large Occitan cross pattern embedded in the ground features twelve zodiac signs, representing the historical symbol of Toulouse and the Languedoc region.
