Place du Capitole

The Place du Capitole is a large central square in Toulouse featuring a grand neoclassical stone facade in pink and white. The space functions during daytime as a market area where vendors sell regional products and other goods.

The square dates to the 12th century when the Capitouls, medieval municipal officials, established their first governing seat here. The building evolved over time into an important center of local administration.

The building inside houses artworks by 19th-century artists depicting key moments from Toulouse's past. Visitors can find murals and decorations that reflect the city's development and identity.

The square is best visited in the morning when vendors display regional products, clothing, and vintage items for sale. The area is walkable and offers plenty of space for strolling and exploration.

A large Occitan cross pattern with twelve zodiac signs is embedded in the ground, a historical symbol of the region. This design links the square to the medieval heritage of Languedoc culture.
