Rhum J.M.

Rhum J.M is a distillery at the base of Mount Pelée that produces rum from freshly pressed sugarcane juice grown in volcanic soil. The facility processes harvested plants immediately into juice and fermentation right after picking.

The distillery began operations in 1845 and was among the first to produce rum from fresh sugarcane juice on Martinique. That founding year marked the start of a production method that has shaped the region ever since.

The production here follows strict rules for rhum agricole and preserves traditional methods of French Caribbean distilling.

Visitors can join guided tours showing the entire process from harvesting to fermentation, followed by tastings. Wear comfortable shoes since the facility sits on uneven ground and touring happens on foot.

The process from sugarcane harvest to fermentation takes less than one hour, ensuring the freshness of the final product. This rapid processing sets production here apart from many other rum facilities worldwide.
