Palais Caraffa, Bastia, Palace in Terra Vechja district, Bastia, France

The Palais Caraffa stands as a five-story stone building with decorated balconies and vaulted ceilings along Rue de la Miséricorde in Bastia.

Built in 1612 by the Petroni family, the palace expanded in 1680 when Anton Bastiano Caraffa constructed a larger residence using the original house as foundation.

The third floor contains reception rooms with trompe l'oeil painted vaults and houses one of the most extensive private book collections in Bastia.

Located at 5 Rue de la Miséricorde, the palace belongs to the municipality of Bastia since 2002 and requires advance planning for visits.

The palace features the Wurtenberg salon, named after Duke Ludwig von Wurtenberg who stayed as a guest of the Caraffa family in 1741.
