Clot la Cime, Mountain summit in Alpes de Haute-Provence, France
Clot la Cime is a mountain summit in the Alpes de Haute-Provence rising to 1594 meters and offering views of Lake Serre-Ponçon. From this vantage point the Durance Valley spreads out below with its meandering course.
The region was transformed by the construction of the Barrage de Serre-Ponçon between 1955 and 1961. This major dam project displaced approximately 1500 local residents from the surrounding area.
The paths around this summit connect several traditional hamlets where local alpine customs remain visible in daily life. These settlements shape the landscape and show how people have adapted to mountain living across generations.
The hiking route is approximately 13 kilometers long with around 670 meters of elevation gain starting from La Bréole town center. Set aside several hours for the round trip and bring adequate water and sturdy footwear.
The route passes through alternating beech forests and open pastures displaying distinct ecological zones during the climb. This changing landscape means each section of the walk feels different and offers varied natural surroundings.
