Sommet de l'Aup, Mountain summit in Trièves, France.
Sommet de l'Aup is a mountain peak in the Trièves area with steep slopes that lead to a ridge. From the ridge, you can see across the surrounding Dévoluy ranges.
The first documented ascent took place in 2012, establishing a route through Col Astier that continues to be used today. This marked the beginning of regular visitation to the peak.
Shepherds still bring their flocks to graze on the upper pastures during the warmer months. This long-standing practice shapes how the landscape looks and feels when you visit.
Most hikers start from a parking area at lower elevation and follow marked trails toward the peak. Bring plenty of water and wear good hiking shoes, as sun exposure is strong at this altitude.
Some sections between Col Astier and the final peak lack trail markings, requiring solid map-reading skills. This makes the route more challenging than typical marked mountain paths in the region.
