Miffant House, Historic house in Dieppe, France
Miffant House stands at 9 rue d'Ecosse in Dieppe and displays a timber-framed facade with four stories decorated with patterned details. The structure shows typical characteristics of regional medieval craftsmanship in its construction and ornamentation.
Built in 1624, the house is the only timber-framed building that survived the bombardment of Dieppe in 1694. This event made it a rare survivor from the city's early construction.
The Miffant family held important roles in Dieppe's Protestant community during the 17th century and shaped local society through their social standing. Their residence reflects the prominence of merchant families in the city's life.
The house now contains five separate apartments ranging from studios to three-bedroom units following extensive renovation work completed in the 2010s. Its location on a central street makes it easily accessible from central Dieppe.
The house is the last remaining of four neighboring buildings that received protected monument status in 1927, while the others have disappeared. This makes it a rare witness to a lost street frontage.
