Pont Colbert

Pont Colbert is a swing bridge in Dieppe that spans just over 70 meters across the water and features a mechanical system allowing it to rotate open. The structure connects the two sides of the port area and was built from puddled iron, steel, and other materials.

The bridge was built in 1889 when Dieppe was expanding its port and needed modern connections. The structure later gained protected monument status because of its technical and design value.

The bridge shows how Dieppe connected its port and trading spaces by bringing pedestrians, carts, and ships together in one structure. You can still see today how this place linked the city's daily life to its harbor.

The best spot to view it is from the harbor, where you can watch the bridge mechanism work when it opens for passing boats. The structure is accessible from public paths and forms a natural stopping point while walking through Dieppe's port district.

The structure holds two different protection categories in the French heritage system, highlighting its dual importance. This dual registration system is rare and shows how much experts valued its technical and artistic achievement.
