Firozabad, Glass manufacturing center in Firozabad, India.
Firozabad is a glass manufacturing center in Firozabad district, Uttar Pradesh, spreading across the plains near the Yamuna River. The city holds rows of production facilities and markets where finished glass items and raw materials change hands.
The settlement once carried the name Chandrawar when it was founded under the Chauhan Rajputs. In the 16th century, Emperor Akbar gave the town its current name following a petition by Raja Todar Mal in 1566.
The workshops across town preserve techniques passed down through generations, with craftsmen shaping blown glass and molded bangles. Families often work together in small units, where the heat from furnaces sets the rhythm of the working day.
The city sits close to National Highway 19, which runs toward Agra and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. A railway station links the town with the route between Delhi and Howrah, making arrival from different directions easier.
Bangles from the region reach markets across India and beyond, with many pieces decorated with fine patterns and colors. Some older workshops still use wooden molds and hand-operated tools made decades ago.
