Asutosh College, Colonial educational building in southern Kolkata, India.
Asutosh College is a higher education institution in Ward 73 of Kolkata, designated as a Grade I heritage building by the municipal corporation. The campus covers a large site with classrooms spread across the grounds, hosting undergraduate courses and postgraduate programs in multiple disciplines.
The institution opened in 1916 under the name South Suburban College and took its present name in 1924 to honor Sir Asutosh Mukherjee. The change followed the death of the influential jurist and scholar who shaped education in Bengal.
The departments maintain individual libraries and laboratories, providing students with resources for academic research and scientific experiments.
The campus sits near Jatin Das Park Metro Station and welcomes visitors during weekday mornings and afternoons. Access may be limited during examination periods, so checking ahead can help plan a visit.
A rooftop solar power plant installed in 2015 generates electricity for internal use across the campus. The installation made this the twelfth educational site in the city to adopt renewable energy.
