Promenade Beach

Promenade Beach runs along the coast of Puducherry and offers a paved walkway with palm trees on one side and the open sea on the other. Colonial buildings in pastel shades line the landward side, giving the beach a calm European atmosphere in the middle of the Indian coastline.

French traders established a trading post here in the 17th century and built administrative buildings along the coast. The facilities served as the center of French activities in southern India for over two centuries.

Local families gather at sunrise and sunset to participate in traditional activities such as yoga sessions and religious ceremonies near the water.

Several vendors offer snacks and drinks along the walkway, while restroom facilities are available at regular intervals. Parking spaces are within walking distance on the street side, and security personnel are present during daytime hours.

A statue of Mahatma Gandhi stands on a raised platform surrounded by eight granite pillars and marks a popular meeting point for locals. The sculpture was erected in honor of his stay in Puducherry during the independence movement.
