Caramanico Terme, Thermal spa town in Province of Pescara, Italy.
Caramanico Terme is a thermal spa town in Province of Pescara, located between Monte Morrone and Majella mountains at around 650 meters elevation. The town sits near where the Orfento and Orta rivers meet, shaped by these waterways and two mineral springs that feed the spa facilities.
The settlement began during Lombard times and grew significantly under the D'Aquino family rule in the 14th century. An earthquake in 1706 brought major changes to the town.
The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore displays Gothic features with a pointed arch portal showing musicians and the Coronation of the Virgin. The decorated entrance tells stories of religious and daily life that visitors can observe when entering.
The thermal spa area operates from April through November using sulphur-rich waters from La Salute and Gisella springs for treatments. Visitors should watch for slippery paths near pools and bring sturdy footwear.
The Natural Reserve Valle dell'Orfento contains paleolithic findings and protects diverse wildlife within Majella National Park. Archaeological discoveries show that humans have used these valleys for thousands of years.
