Pescasseroli

Pescasseroli stands at 1167 meters elevation in a valley entrance of the Sangro River, surrounded by ancient woodlands and mountain pastures.

The town developed around an 11th-century abbey under the Borrello family domain before passing to Di Sangro family and later becoming part of Aquinas holdings.

The Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul contains a wooden statue of Madonna with Child from the 13th century, representing local religious traditions.

The town functions as the main center of Abruzzo National Park, offering a visitor center, nature museum, wildlife areas, and ski slopes on Mount Vitelle.

The Pescasseroli-Candela sheep route extends 211 kilometers from Abruzzo mountains to Puglia pastures, following an ancient Roman military path.
