Colico, Lakeside commune in Province of Lecco, Italy.
Colico sits on the northern shore of Lake Como where the Adda River enters the water. The town spreads along the lakefront at an elevation of about 218 meters, forming a linear settlement between the water and the surrounding mountains.
The place grew around the river mouth where the Adda enters the lake, making it a transportation hub. During World War I, Fort Montecchio Nord was built and remains the only completely preserved fortress from that period in the country.
The Musica sull'Acqua festival brings classical music performances to the Piazza Garibaldi and Piona Abbey each summer, shaping the town's cultural rhythm. These events draw music enthusiasts from across the region throughout the warmer months.
The town works as a transportation hub with regular boat services to Como and Lecco, plus train connections to Milan and Bolzano. Its position on the lake and main rail lines makes it easy to reach for day trips and longer stays.
Monte Legnone rises approximately 2,600 meters directly above Colico, creating a natural corridor that shapes bird migration patterns in the region. The Pian di Spagna nature reserve takes advantage of this geography to observe thousands of birds during their seasonal journeys.
