Cecina, Coastal town in Tuscany, Italy.
Cecina is a coastal municipality in the province of Livorno, sitting between the Tyrrhenian Sea and gentle hills in the Tuscan hinterland. The town includes both a historic core inland and Marina di Cecina, which sits directly on the shore and draws many beachgoers during summer.
The area was already inhabited in ancient times, when Roman families established country estates and first settlements formed. Over the centuries, the town developed under various rulers before undergoing greater modernization in the 19th century through the construction of the railway line.
The archaeological museum preserves grave goods recovered from Etruscan necropolises in the surrounding area, offering insight into burial practices of the past. Visitors can view bronze tools, ceramic vessels, and jewelry pieces crafted more than two millennia ago.
The beaches are reachable on foot from the town center or by bike along easy paths that pass through pine groves. Hiking trails in the nearby nature reserve are well marked and suitable for families with children.
In the Tomboli di Cecina Nature Reserve grow centuries-old holm oaks and Mediterranean scrub, forming one of the last coastal forests of northern Tuscany. The woodland runs for several kilometers parallel to the sea and shelters numerous bird species that nest here.
