Riserva naturale Tombolo di Cecina, Nature reserve along Tuscan coast in Livorno, Italy

The reserve extends for 15 kilometers along the Tyrrhenian coast, featuring dense pine forests and sand dunes that reach heights of 7 meters.

Grand Duke Leopoldo II of Tuscany initiated the pine forest plantation in 1839 to shield agricultural lands from strong sea winds and salt.

The reserve functions as an educational space where visitors learn about Mediterranean ecosystems through designated nature trails and informative displays.

The protected area offers 405 hectares of accessible paths for walking, cycling, and horseback riding, with separate northern and southern sections divided by Marina di Cecina.

The reserve houses multiple pine species including domestic, Aleppo, and maritime varieties, alongside populations of wild rabbits, foxes, and porcupines.
