Vada Shoal lighthouse

Vada Shoal lighthouse is a cylindrical stone tower on the Rosignano Marittimo coast with black walls interrupted by a horizontal red band and a grey metal lantern dome on top. The structure rises 18 meters and sits on a concrete foundation surrounded by riprap for coastal protection.

The structure was built in 1868 to warn of dangerous shoals threatening ships in these waters. Major reconstruction occurred in 1959, followed by additional maintenance work in 2008.

The Marina Militare manages this essential maritime structure, which maintains its identification code number 1975 E.F for naval operations.

The light sends two white flashes every 10 seconds and is visible from about 12 nautical miles away, helping vessels navigate Tuscan coastal waters safely. The facility now runs on solar power and operates fully automated.
