Stadio Giovanni Zini, football stadium
The Stadio Giovanni Zini is a football stadium in Cremona with a capacity of around 15,000 seats laid out in a rectangular shape. The stands are mainly positioned behind the goals, with a main stand on the west side and modern roofs covering the east and south stands.
The stadium opened in 1919 as Campo Inglese and was renamed in 1924 after Giovanni Zini, a Cremonese goalkeeper who died in World War I. Over the decades, major renovations followed: new stands were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and between 2017 and 2019 the east and south stands were covered with roofs.
The stadium is named after Giovanni Zini, a goalkeeper whose memory remains alive in the local community. The south stand has long been the place where the most devoted supporters gather, showing the tight bond between fans and their team.
The stadium sits in the northeast part of Cremona, less than one kilometer from the historic center and roughly 20 minutes on foot from the train station. Visitors can easily walk or find parking and explore the city from this central location.
In 1988-89, the stadium hosted a Cup final between Sampdoria and Napoli, with Sampdoria winning 4-0 in an away match. It also hosted matches during the 2015 World Rugby Under 20 Championship, showing its importance beyond football.
