San Paolo, Ferrara, Renaissance church in central Ferrara, Italy
Located on Corso Porta Reno, San Paolo church features Renaissance architecture with two cloisters and houses significant artworks from Ferrarese painters.
Construction of San Paolo began in 1550 and underwent reconstruction after the 1570 earthquake under architect Alberto Schiatti's supervision.
The church contains masterful works by Ferrarese artists including Scarsellino's Descent of the Holy Spirit and Bastianino's Resurrection and Circumcision of Jesus.
Visitors can access the church through Piazzetta Alberto Schiatti, with guided tours available to explore the architectural details and artistic collection.
The adjacent monastery, which served as a Carmelitan residence, was later transformed into a jail that operated until 1912.
