Palazzo comunale

Palazzo Comunale is Ferrara's town hall, displaying Gothic and Renaissance features across its impressive brick and stone facade. Inside, multiple rooms and halls serve administrative functions and host cultural activities.

Construction began in 1245 when the city established its administrative center. The building took its distinctive form between 1472 and 1481 under the Este family, who reshaped it according to Renaissance principles of their era.

The palace embodies the power of the Este family, whose rule shaped Ferrara for centuries. Walking through it, you sense how closely the building was tied to the dynasty's identity and influence.

A side room holds a fresco cycle from the 1930s depicting mythological and historical scenes from Ferrara's past. These artworks show how the city reimagined its own history during the 20th century.
