Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport, airport serving Salerno, Italy

Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport is a commercial airport in Bellizzi, south of Salerno, with a single paved runway and a terminal building completed after a major renovation. The terminal offers check-in counters, security screening, a baggage claim area, and a small number of gates serving both domestic and international routes.

The site was established in 1926 by the Italian Air Force as a training base and remained in military use for decades before being converted for civilian flights in 2007. After closing for major works, it reopened in 2024 with a new terminal and updated infrastructure.

The airport takes its name from the Amalfi Coast, a stretch of coastline known for its cliffside villages that lies just north of the facility. Arriving here puts travelers within easy reach of towns like Positano and Ravello, which draw visitors from across Europe and beyond.

The airport connects to the A2 highway, making it straightforward to reach by car, and bus connections from Salerno city center are available for those without a vehicle. Since the terminal is newly reopened, arriving with extra time is a good idea while staff and services settle into their routines.

One of the original hangars built in 1926 was designed by Pier Luigi Nervi, an engineer who later became known around the world for his concrete structures. This makes the airport one of the earliest places where his work can be traced, long before his wider reputation was established.
