National Archeological Museum of Pontecagnano

The National Archaeological Museum of Pontecagnano presents artifacts from excavations revealing the ancient settlement known as Amina through extensive collections.

Systematic archaeological excavations begun in 1962 under Bruno D'Agostino uncovered a necropolis containing 9,000 tombs dating from 3000 BCE to third century CE.

The museum displays materials demonstrating the exchanges between local populations and Greek colonists through imported objects found in funeral collections.

The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 19:00, offering wheelchair accessibility and six chronologically organized exhibition sections for visitors.

The necropolis findings document the transformation of Pontecagnano from a settlement into an urban center during the sixth century BCE.
