Campolongo Pass, Mountain pass in the Dolomites, Italy

The col de Campolongo is a mountain pass in the Dolomites of northeastern Italy, linking the Cordevole Valley on one side to the Badia Valley on the other. It sits at just under 6,600 feet (2,000 m) above sea level, on the border between the Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige regions.

The pass was included in the Giro d'Italia for the first time in 1949, and it has been part of the race on several occasions since then. Before cycling made it known more widely, local traders and villagers used the route to move between the two valleys.

The pass sits on the Sellaronda circuit, a ski loop that goes around the Sella group in either direction. Colored signs along the slopes guide skiers through the route without needing a map.

The road is accessible by car or bicycle in summer, but in winter it can be blocked by snow and conditions change quickly. A small hut near the top offers a place to stop and get a warm drink before heading back down.

The climb from Arabba or Corvara is one of the gentler ones in the Dolomites, which is why it draws cyclists looking for a longer ride without a very steep gradient. On both sides of the pass, dense forest gives way to open rock, so the landscape shifts noticeably as you go up.
