The church received its name following the Catholic victory at the Battle of the White Mountain in 1620, where an image of Mary reportedly affected the outcome.
The interior houses multiple chapels decorated by noble families, containing artworks from prominent painters including Guercino, Nicolas Lorrain, and Domenichino.

The church contains Gian Lorenzo Bernini's sculptural masterwork depicting The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa d'Avila, created between 1647 and 1652 in white marble.
