Museo del vino

The Museo del Vino occupies twenty exhibition rooms within the 17th-century Palazzo Graziani-Baglioni and holds over 3000 objects related to wine production. The rooms contain displays about viticulture techniques, traditional winemaking equipment, and specialized tools used across different historical periods.

The museum was founded in 1974 by Giorgio and Maria Grazia Lungarotti and displays archaeological finds from the Bronze Age through the Roman period. These objects come from the earliest known wine regions and demonstrate the long continuity of winemaking in this area.

The collection displays medieval ceramics, Renaissance pottery, and engravings featuring wine themes created by prominent artists across different centuries. These works show how wine was depicted and valued in European artistic traditions over time.

The rooms are organized by theme, allowing visitors to move systematically through different aspects of winemaking. Plan to spend several hours exploring the collection and becoming familiar with the various displays at a comfortable pace.

Room 16 houses a distinctive collection of wafer irons specifically designed for making pastries traditionally served with Vin Santo wine. These tools reveal the careful details that shaped a regional food culture.
