Torgiano

Torgiano is a municipality perched on a hilltop in Umbria between the Chiascio and Tiber rivers. The surrounding landscape is covered with vineyards and olive groves that define the local economy and scenery.

The settlement began as an Etruscan outpost and was later developed by the Romans as a settlement called Turris Amnium. During the medieval period, it became a fortified position with defensive towers to protect the surrounding lands.

The wine museum here displays tools and objects that tell the story of how people made wine over time. Locals and visitors use the space to understand how deeply wine-making shaped life in this region.

The town is easy to reach by car from nearby Perugia, with parking available near the center. Once there, the main attractions are within walking distance and the roads are straightforward to navigate.

A 13th-century defensive tower stands outside the town walls and serves as the main symbol of the place's military past. This tower was positioned to command the key approaches to the settlement from the surrounding valleys.
