Orto Botanico dell'Università di Perugia, Botanical garden at University of Perugia, Italy.
The Botanical Garden of the University of Perugia is a green space with over 3,000 plant species across about 5 acres, including aquatic plants, trees, fruit species, and tropical specimens. The collection is divided into various thematic sections that represent different climatic zones and plant families.
Perugia's first botanical collection dates to 1768, but the current garden was established in 1962. It represents a continuous tradition of scientific plant collection spanning more than two centuries.
The medieval section displays plants organized by traditional knowledge systems, beginning with a representation of the Garden of Eden. This arrangement shows how people once understood the connection between plants and healing.
The garden is located in the Borgo XX Giugno area and is open daily for visitors to explore. Guided tours can be arranged upon request to learn more about the collections.
A large greenhouse houses rare plant species and specialized collections, including an extensive Hydrangea collection. These sections allow visitors to see unusual plants that would not naturally grow in the region.
