Teatro del Pavone, 18th-century theatre in Perugia, Italy.
Teatro del Pavone is an 18th-century theatre in Perugia with a horseshoe-shaped design inspired by the Teatro Argentina in Rome, featuring multiple tiers of boxes surrounding the main floor. The stone structure preserves this classical Italian theatre form.
An original wooden structure from 1723 was replaced in 1765 with a masonry building designed by architect Pietro Carattoli for the noble families. This reconstruction modernized the venue and established it as a major cultural site.
The theatre displays paintings by Mariotti depicting celebrated playwrights, and a curtain by Francesco Appiani featuring the goddess Juno. These artistic details shape the interior and connect the space to theatrical tradition.
The theatre is located on Piazza della Repubblica along Corso Vannucci in the city center and is easily accessible on foot. It continues to host performances and functions as a cinema throughout the year.
The building features a movable floor system from 1831 that raises the stage to ground level, transforming the space into a grand ballroom. This engineering solution allowed the venue to serve multiple purposes.
