Palais Sorbello, Baroque palace museum in Perugia, Italy.
Palazzo Sorbello is a three-story Baroque palace featuring decorated vaulted ceilings, period furnishings, paintings, and porcelain collections throughout its rooms. The interior spans multiple floors and provides access to a library of around 26,000 volumes as well as a terrace overlooking the cityscape.
The building was constructed in the late 16th century atop Etruscan walls and originally belonged to the Montemelini family. The Bourbon di Sorbello family acquired it in 1780 and shaped its current form.
The museum displays over 500 lace pieces assembled by Romeyne Robert, who founded a local workshop dedicated to traditional Umbrian linen embroidery. This collection preserves craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations in the region.
Visitors can explore the ground floor and noble floor, where furnishings from the 18th century and the extensive book collection are displayed. Comfortable shoes are useful since you will need to navigate several staircases and levels.
The entrance features a wooden floor system designed to reduce noise from passing carriages. This constructive detail is rare in Italian buildings and shows the attention paid to living comfort during the period when it was built.
