Cathedral

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is a church in Rieti featuring Romanesque architecture with two levels stacked vertically and a wide nave supported by stone columns. Several side chapels and a main altar structure the interior.

Construction began in 1109 under Bishop Benincasa and proceeded in two distinct phases spread far apart in time. A pope later dedicated the upper section, marking an important moment in the building's past.
