Challant, Medieval settlement in Aosta Valley, Italy
The village of Challant sits at an elevation of 744 meters in a mountain valley, surrounded by Alpine peaks and traditional stone buildings.
During the fascist period from 1939 to 1946, Challant underwent a name change to Villa Sant'Anselmo before reverting to its original designation.
The village celebrates its patron saint, Victor of Soleure, with an annual festival on September 30th, bringing together local residents for traditional ceremonies.
Challant extends across 5,200 hectares of terrain, offering numerous hiking paths that connect to neighboring communities in the Aosta Valley region.
The territory contains the Castle of Ville, transferred from the Counts of Savoy to the House of Challant in the thirteenth century.
