Sarriod de la Tour, Medieval castle in Saint-Pierre, Italy

Sarriod de la Tour is a castle near the Dora Baltea River featuring multiple towers, a chapel, and fortified walls built in Aosta Valley style. The interior spans several floors with exhibits displaying military history and religious objects throughout the spaces.

The original structure dates from the 10th century and underwent major expansion beginning in 1420 under Jean Sarriod. His son Antoine later made significant modifications that shaped the building as it appears today.

The Hall of Heads displays carved corbels showing mythological figures and family crests that reveal what the ruling family valued in the medieval period. These ornaments reflect how local lords expressed their status through artistic commissions and symbolism.

The castle is open daily for visitors to explore at their own pace through the various rooms and exhibits. Comfortable shoes are recommended since you will encounter multiple staircases and different floor levels throughout the building.

The ground floor contains medieval frescoes depicting daily life scenes and craft activities that offer insight into the past. The courtyard also holds a special cast-iron fountain called Melograno with a distinctive character that adds charm to the space.
