Temple of Jupiter, Roman temple in Pompeii Forum, Italy
The Temple of Jupiter stands at the north end of the Forum, featuring six columns on its facade and four on each side.
Built around 250 BCE as a tribute to Jupiter, the temple underwent modifications after 80 BCE to include worship of Juno and Minerva.
The temple functioned as the Capitolium of Pompeii, representing the center of religious ceremonies and political gatherings for the city inhabitants.
The structure rises on a high podium measuring 37 meters in length and 17 meters in width, accessed by two converging staircases.
Inside the temple cell, archaeologists discovered a colossal head of Jupiter, indicating the presence of an enormous statue that once dominated the space.
