Sanctuary of the Public Lares, Archaeological ruins in Pompeii, Italy.
The Sanctuary contains multiple niches and columns positioned along its walls, featuring plinths that once supported numerous marble statues and decorations.
After the earthquake of 62 AD, this religious building underwent reconstruction and became dedicated to the worship of household deities called Lares.
The central altar within the sanctuary played an essential role in Roman religious ceremonies, where citizens performed sacrifices and presented offerings.
The archaeological site remains open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with entrance through Via Villa dei Misteri and right onto Via dell'Abbondanza.
Eight marble plinths discovered at the location indicate the sanctuary's function as a principal center for public worship in ancient Pompeii.
