Portello, Urban district in northwestern Milan, Italy.
Portello is a mixed residential district in northwestern Milan featuring modern residential towers, commercial areas, and the expansive Parco Vittoria. The park includes a circular lake and a spiral-shaped hill that serve as spaces for walking and spending time outdoors.
From 1910 to 1986, this area housed Alfa Romeo's main manufacturing facility, where automobiles and aircraft engines were produced. After production ended, the site was redeveloped and transformed into a modern urban neighborhood.
The district preserves traces of its industrial past in repurposed buildings now used for housing and cultural events. This transformation shows how the neighborhood evolved from its original function into a modern residential area.
The Piazza Portello shopping center offers over 50 stores and a large supermarket with daily opening hours. The best time to visit is outside peak hours in the morning or early afternoon.
In 1947, a motorsport event took place here with a temporary racing circuit set through the neighborhood streets. This race is largely forgotten today, though it represents an important episode in the city's sports history.
