Pope Honorius III consecrated the church on August 12, 1220, making it the first church in Rome dedicated to the Annunciation.
Cardinal Francesco Barberini established a tradition of distributing food to those in need during the Feast of the Annunciation.
The church stands at Vicolo dell'Annunziatella 97 in Rome, between Via Ardeatina and Via di Grotta Perfetta.
The adjacent Nunziatella Catacomb features the cubicolo del Giudizio, a chamber with late 3rd-century frescoes depicting final judgment scenes.
