San Paolino

San Paolino is a three-naved church in Viareggio with marble columns, barrel vaults, and several marble altars throughout. The interior layout features tall columns that divide the space and create distinct prayer areas for visitors.

Construction took place between 1886 and 1896, and Pope Pius XII granted it minor basilica status in 1958. This ecclesiastical recognition elevated its standing within the local religious community.

The golden mosaic inside shows Saint Paul surrounded by angels. The Lourdes altar holds a statue placed within a small carved cave that visitors notice when entering.

The site is open to visitors during daytime hours on most days. It is helpful to check in advance if services are scheduled, as this may affect visiting times.

The bell tower was built in 1906 to replace an earlier one destroyed during World War II. This reconstruction after wartime damage reveals how the church recovered and rebuilt following the conflict.
