Saint Lorenzo Church is a Gothic church building at Piazza San Lorenzo in Vicenza with seven pointed arches across its facade. The interior is characterized by three naves supported by cylindrical pillars with terracotta-colored ribs running along the ceiling.
Franciscan friars initiated construction of this religious building in 1280 and completed the main structure by 1300. Over the centuries it remained an important center for the Franciscan community in Vicenza.
The main entrance displays carved stone figures showing Mary with Child, Saint Francis, and Saint Lorenzo. These sculptures from the 14th century tell through their details about the religious devotion of that era.
The church is located just over 900 meters from Vicenza railway station and can be reached on foot or by local buses. Several bus stops are available nearby, including one at the Contra' San Biagio intersection.
Four sarcophagi from the 14th century are embedded in the side arches of the facade, containing the remains of important historical figures. These burial monuments reveal the site's importance in local history and offer a rare glimpse into medieval burial practices.
