Santa Caterina, Baroque church in Lucca, Italy

The church features an oval-shaped structure with a corner entrance facing Via Vittorio Emanuele and large grates installed on the inner walls.

Built in the first half of the eighteenth century by architect Francesco Pini, this church represents the largest religious Baroque construction in Lucca.

The church holds a substantial oval canvas depicting The Ecstasy of Saint Caterina, painted by Pompeo Batoni, now displayed at Museum of Palazzo Mansi.

Located at the intersection of Via del Crocifisso and Via Vittorio Emanuele, the church currently accepts visitors exclusively through appointments.

Special grates were installed on the interior walls to conceal the faces of nuns during their prayers, while the dome opens to let natural light enter.
