Livorno Lighthouse

Livorno Lighthouse is a white stone tower standing 52 meters tall at the southern entrance to the city's port. The structure features a distinctive polygonal base with thirteen sides that supports a cylindrical upper section.

The tower was built in 1303 by master builders commissioned by Pisa to guide ships into the harbor. This construction marked the beginning of organized maritime infrastructure at this location.

The structure stands as a symbol of Livorno's identity as a working port and maritime hub. Its presence in the harbor reminds visitors of the sea's central importance to the city's life and economy.

The structure is visible from the harbor and best observed when visiting the southern section of the port. The location is easily accessible and offers good views both from the water and from nearby docks.

Inside the tower, eleven floors connected by a spiral staircase contain rooms with varying ceiling heights. This irregular interior layout reflects the craftsmanship and practical building methods of the 1300s.
