Silo granario, Industrial silo in Port of Livorno, Italy
The Granary Silo consists of two structures near the Old Fortress, featuring circular storage compartments and reinforced concrete construction techniques.
Built between 1921 and 1924 with a storage capacity of 12,000 tons of grain, the silo remained operational until the 1980s when it ceased operations.
The ground floor spans 800 square meters and functions as an exhibition space, connecting the port's industrial heritage with contemporary cultural activities.
The facility contains mechanical installations, including ship elevators and conveyor belts, which were essential for efficient cargo handling in the port.
This structure represents one of Italy's first large-scale applications of reinforced concrete, characterized by angular pilasters and projecting cornices.
