Palazzo Comunale

Palazzo Comunale is a government building in Livorno featuring a double marble staircase leading to the first floor and a small bell tower at its peak for council meetings. The building serves as the town hall, housing municipal offices and administrative services for residents in a central location.

After severe earthquake damage in 1742, the building underwent reconstruction in 1745 with a new monumental double staircase designed by Bernardino Ciurini. This rebuild marked a turning point in the city's infrastructure recovery.

The ceremonial hall contains a Murano crystal chandelier and displays paintings by Luca Giordano and Justus Sustermans that enrich the palace's artistic heritage. These artworks shape the appearance and character of the space for visitors today.

The council hall displays bas-reliefs depicting city history and busts of notable Livornese figures. A flag in the room commemorates the 1849 siege of the city.
