Forte Centrale

Forte Centrale is a fort built on high ground with thick stone walls and multiple bastions designed according to 19th-century military standards. The site contains gun emplacements and underground chambers that demonstrate the defensive engineering practices of that era.

Construction began in 1883 as part of Italy's strategic defense network during a period of European tensions. The fort was equipped with advanced weaponry to protect the northwestern borders of the peninsula.

The Ministry of Cultural Heritage recognizes this fort as a national heritage site, representing military engineering and architectural methods of the late 1800s.

The fort is reached via marked trails that lead uphill and can be steep in places. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and allow time to explore the different levels of the fortification.

Many visitors overlook the underground tunnels and storage rooms beneath the fort, which formed a complex system designed to protect soldiers from enemy fire. These hidden structures offer insight into garrison life and daily operations.
