Museo del Risorgimento e della Resistenza, History museum in Palazzo dei Diamanti, Ferrara, Italy.
The Museo del Risorgimento e della Resistenza documents Italian unification and World War II through a broad collection of weapons, uniforms, documents, and personal objects. The museum is currently being relocated and reorganized at a new home, the Casa della Patria Pico Cavalieri on Corso Giovecca 165.
The institution was founded in 1903 to commemorate three local patriots, and expanded its collection in 1954 to include materials about the Italian resistance movement. This chronological expansion reflects the importance of both periods in Ferrara's local and national history.
The museum preserves materials from the period of French occupation through Italian unification, including artifacts from the Bersaglieri del Po military unit. These collections show how local communities maintained their traditions of resistance and shaped their understanding of national identity.
A visit requires advance planning, since the collection is in a transition phase. It is recommended to contact the new location beforehand to ensure access to the study center and exhibitions.
The collection includes remnants of the Austrian fortress of Ferrara and documents about persecutions of minorities during the twentieth century. These lesser-known pieces offer deeper insight into more difficult chapters of the city's past.
