Museo del Giocattolo, Ethnographic museum in Bagheria, Italy.
Museo del Giocattolo is an ethnographic museum in Bagheria that displays around 1600 toys spanning different periods in history. The collection ranges from ancient times through 1900 and also includes about 100 wax figures from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The museum was founded in 1994 and moved to Villa Aragona Cuto in 2002 before relocating to Villa Certosa in 2014. These moves reflect how the collection grew in importance to the local area over time.
The exhibits include small terracotta figures from ancient burials and dollhouses with miniature furnishings that show how people lived in earlier times. Wooden toys on display depict scenes from the daily lives of Sicilian farm families.
The museum is housed in a historic villa and can be reached easily from the town center. Plan your visit for a weekday morning when it tends to be less crowded.
Inside the museum operates a restoration workshop where artisans shape and model new wax figures using centuries-old techniques. The handcrafted methods remain unchanged from historical practices.
