Palazzo Medici-Tornaquinci

Palazzo Medici-Tornaquinci, Renaissance palace in Via Tornabuoni, Florence, Italy

Palazzo Medici-Tornaquinci is a Renaissance palace on Via Tornabuoni in Florence with four floors and a mezzanine level. The ground floor displays four large portals while the first floor features arched windows, and the upper levels preserve their historical architectural elements.

The palace was originally owned by the Soldanieri family, a Ghibelline family, until their property was confiscated. The building then passed to the Strozzi family, who further developed it.

The palace contains a wooden tabernacle with a 14th-century Madonna and connects two merchant courtyards through an 18th-century staircase. These spaces show how wealthy families combined business and residence within a single building.

The ground floor is accessible with various commercial establishments, while the upper levels have preserved their original architectural structure. The location is central on Via Tornabuoni, one of Florence's main shopping streets.

A marble plaque from 1762 remains on the right side of the building, listing specific commercial activities that were prohibited in Piazza Strozzi. This inscription reveals the civic rules that regulated business life in this wealthy area.
