Ponte Costanzo, Road bridge in Ragusa, Italy

Ponte Costanzo is a road bridge spanning the Irminio River valley in Sicily with a total length of nearly 1 kilometer. Its massive concrete supports rise dramatically from the valley floor and carry traffic high above the landscape below.

Construction of this bridge project began in the mid-1970s and took about a decade to complete. The project marked an important infrastructure development for Sicily, improving connections between major cities in the region.

The bridge represents a milestone in Italian civil engineering, demonstrating the technical capabilities of Sicilian construction during the late 20th century.

The bridge carries main highway traffic and can be crossed by car or on foot if traveling through the area. The best views of the structure come from the valley below or from nearby viewpoints on either side.

When first opened, this structure held the distinction of being among the tallest bridges in Italy at the time. The pair of towering main supports rising from the foundations creates a striking visual landmark against the valley landscape.
