Guerrieri Bridge, Highway bridge in Modica, Italy
The Guerrieri Bridge is a highway viaduct spanning a valley between Ragusa and Modica, built with prestressed concrete piers. The structure rises approximately 137 meters above the terrain and crosses a distance of roughly 550 meters.
The viaduct was completed in 1968 and represented one of the first tall bridge structures in Italy, demonstrating the country's capabilities in infrastructure development after the war. Its construction came during a period of significant transportation expansion in the Sicily region.
The bridge connects communities in the Modica region while demonstrating the technical capabilities of Italian engineering during the post-war reconstruction period.
The bridge is reached via the main highway connecting Ragusa and Modica and is traveled daily by traffic. From several spots along the surrounding area, you can view the structure from below.
The structure stands close to the Viaduct Irminio, with both bridges crossing the valley in proximity to each other. The closely spaced piers were a technical novelty for Italian bridge engineering at the time of construction.
